Interested in scheduling a baptism? Please call the church office at 401-322-0655 for an appointment to discuss baptism with Pastor Gin. Filling out and bringing the “Form For Baptism” is helpful but not required.

Baptism is one of two sacraments practiced by Presbyterians; Communion is the other. Baptism in the Presbyterian church is a sacrament signifying a believer’s public commitment to Jesus Christ and the Christian Faith.

Presbyterians practice both adult and infant baptism. Not everyone is baptized as an infant. Therefore we affirm that people come to faith at different stages in life, and recognize the baptism of older believers as an equally valid expression of the sacrament.

The Pastor, known as a teaching elder, must preside at the baptism, but it is a congregation’s ruling elders who authorize baptisms and provide for the spiritual growth and nurture of members. That’s why a ruling elder of the church always presents the candidate for baptism. In turn, both the family and the congregation promise to contribute to the baptized person’s Christian formation.
