MISSION LUNCH & TALK on January 17

Thursday, January 17th at noon
Mission Luncheon
So Near and Yet So Far
A Brief Overview of Cuba

The Reformed Presbyterian Church in Cuba and the Presbyterian Church, USA.

Not much is known about ordinary life in Cuba nor about the existence and missions of the various churches of Christ on the island. Since the ’80’s the PCUSA had had strong and fruitful mission partnerships with the Presbyterian church in Cuba, allowing for personal visits back and forth in spite of the US embargo.

Reverend Lynda Clements, our Parish Associate, has been going to Cuba since 1995, and will soon be on her 19th journey in early February. You are invited to hear Lynda talk about the dignity and strength of the Cuban church, ask lots of questions and explore ways to be involved.

Lynda will make her presentation on Thursday, January 17th at noon in Fellowship Hall. There will be a lasagna luncheon and everyone is welcome.

Sign up in Fellowship Hall or call the Church Office..

MITTEN TREE

The Mitten Tree is in the corner of the Sanctuary and will remain until the spring thaw. Please put new or gently used mittens, gloves, scarves, coats, hats, stocking caps, and work gloves for men, women, children—all sizes—on the tree. Items are distributed through the Jonnycake Center.

Thank you.

SEW GOOD SOULS on Saturdays

Sew Good Souls is starting up again in 2019 to make sundresses (Saturdays, January 19, February 2, and March 2); quilts (Saturdays, April 6, May 4 and 18); and small kennel quilts (that can be made at home) to be distributed to those in need. We have a goal to have our quilt show in June to display our work before these items travel to their new destinations.

Please come and join in the fun and creative work to help fulfill our mission. Questions? Please reach out to Lois Gardner, Jane Larkin or Yvette Drurey. We are in the Church Directory!

BIBLE STUDY on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Following up on our successful overview of the Bible last year with the Disciple Bible Study, we will be doing year 2 in the Disciple Bible Study. The title of this year’s study is Into the Word…Into the World.

The Old Testament study will focus on Genesis and Exodus, the first two books in the Bible. When we get to the New Testament study after Christmas we will focus on the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts.

Participants in the Disciple Bible Study purchase a $35 study guide and spend time each week in personal study and reflection. We then gather together for additional teaching and study of the daily readings.

Once again we will offer a Tuesday morning class from 9:00 to 11:00 am and a Wednesday evening class from 7:15 to 8:30 pm.  Signup for Disciple Bible Study by calling the church office at 401-322-0655 or emailing the Church Office at clerk@dcccp.necoxmail.com. If you are interested and have questions, please contact Pastor Wayne.

All are welcome to attend.
